Nature Studies

These 90 min lessons focus on environmental issues and the natural world that God has given us.

Animal Tracking & Identification: By the end of this unit, students will be able to identify some of the common animals around Walcamp and their tracks. Students will also gain some understanding of the functions and habitations of different types of animals.

Farm Tours: Farms are an important part of our lives. With this unit, students will get the chance to visit neighboring farms and learn more about the daily running and the responsibilities a farmer has. The Farm Tours require transportation off-site.

Tree Study & Identification: Students "adopt" a tree as they learn about the parts of a tree, its usefulness, and how to tell them apart by variations in shape, leaves, fruit and bark.

Pond Study: Through observation and study the students will learn about the habitats, characteristics and interdependences of animal, bugs and plants at the pond. The students could get wet in this activity.

River Life: Students will learn about the life of the Kishwaukee river. How the river is formed, where it goes and the plants, animals and life that it sustains around Walcamp. The students could get wet in this activity.

NEW! Ecology Survey: Students discuss the relationships within an ecosystem, then proceed to mark out an area and conduct a survey of their 'ecosytem' using skills developed in previous lessons. This unit is designed for fully-programmed groups visiting for the entire week.
