Group Options - Event Ideas
In an effort to make our Homeschool Days Events more compatible with the needs and interests of the homeschool community, Walcamp now offers homeschool co-operative groups the opportunity to schedule events based on their schedule and interests. Possible field-day event themes include:
Eco-worlds: Test your observation skills as you explore various natural communities around camp, discovering how animals, trees, humans, and even non-living things are connected, affect one another, and work together to live in community.
A Day on the Frontier: Walk in the footsteps of the pioneers as you make wax candles, learn to shoot a bow and arrow, work with pioneer tools, or cook over an open fire.
Night Visions: Explore what happens in nature after dark. Take a night hike in search of wildlife, roast s'mores around a campfire, and gaze in awe at the heavens as you explore the wonders of the night sky with our Awe-stronomy unit.
Recreational Day: Bring your group for a fun day in the outdoors. Activities vary by season, but could include Archery, Canoeing, Snowshoeing or Skiing, Nature Hikes, Field Games, building an Igloo or Tree Shelter, Nature Art projects, and more.
Teen Challenge: Teen Challenge utilizes our Group Initiative Course to develop skills in communication, trust, problem-solving, and working together with other people. Designed for a minimum group of 8 participants who have completed grades 5 or higher.
Test of Survival : What does it take to survive out-of-doors? Students construct shelters, develop basic fire-building skills, and learn basic outdoor survival skills.
Actual programming may vary between events. Our staff will work with you to determine which activities would work best for your group. Programming costs vary by activity and group size.
