Who takes care of my child while he or she is at Walcamp? - Walcamp's Summer Staff are carefully selected each year because of their excellent qualifications and love for Jesus and children. Each senior staff member is required to attend a 2 week training session at Walcamp led by
Keith Peters, our Summer Camp Director.
Each senior staff member is First Aid/CPR trained. All aquatic activities are supervised by Red Cross Certified lifeguards. Additionally, a volunteer RN or MD is on duty each week to administer First Aid and administer prescribed medications.
What is your camper/counselor ratio? Walcamp programs are built on an 8 to 1 Camper/Counselor ratio. The ratio varies somewhat based on ages -according to ACA standards- and by the number of participants, and any groups that exceed that 8:1 ratio will have an additional Junior servant, (high school volunteer) to work with the cabin group all week. HandyCamp ratios are determined by the needs of each camper.
How many kids typically attend each session? On average, there are about 8 boys and 8 girls in each camp group. With numerous sessions going on simultaniously, there can be anywhere from 100-150 campers at camp during the week.
Where will my child sleep? - Unless otherwise indicated, campers stay in bunk style housing with modern bathrooms.
If your child is registered for Treehouse Village, Pioneer Village or Survivor they will be staying in the designated area for that Village Camp.
What if my child becomes homesick?- It is not unusual for young or first time campers to be homesick. You can assist in the prevention of this by talking with your child about the experience - making new friends and doing fun activities. Remember - their attitudes will reflect your own. We do our best to keep your child active and involved in fun and exciting activities. It is helpful to the counselor if you fill out the camper information sheet in your confirmation packet to let us know what techniques will work best with your child. If the homesickness persists, Keith, the Summer Camp Director, may call you to let you know what is happening and seek helpful hints for your child. We highly recommend against the child speaking directly to the parents as this tends to increase homesickness - for parent and child alike, but we certainly respect your need or desire to do so. |

Should I send money along for Snacks and
Souvenirs? - Yes, if you chose to do so. Your child will have the opportunity to visit the snack bar each after noon. We recommend that you leave about $10-$15 with your child for the week and plan to purchase large ticket souvenir items on Sunday or Friday during registration or sign-out. For a list of available items and prices, visit our Camp Store.
Should we eat before leaving for camp on Sunday? - YES! There is no dinner served at Walcamp on Sunday before, during or after registration. There is a McDonald's and Subway in Genoa.
Is there Lunch served on Friday? - YES! We invite you to come to the closing campfire at 11:00 am and stay for lunch. If you cannot stay for lunch you may sign your child out immediately following the closing campfire.
My camper is missing something. Do you have a lost & found?
Lost & found items are collected in a central location available to the counselors throughout the week and to you during pick up on Friday. Walcamp personnel are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen articles or clothing. Please do not send valuable items with your camper as they may be lost or accidentally taken home by other campers. Also, please make sure you check lost & found and have ALL your camper’s items before leaving the camp. In the event you do leave anything behind, you may send an email to Keith@Walcamp.org and arrange to pick it up. We will NOT ship any lost & found items at any time. Lost and found items will be donated to a local charity after one week, and any medications will be disposed of properly.
