Frequently Asked Questions:
Photos and Media

Photos, DVDs and other media

Where can I find pictures of my campers? Walcamp is using a new photo gallery providing better quality, increased security, and the ability to order prints of your camper's experience. To view the album, browse to the Photo Gallery and log in using your Registration account.

How do I see the photos if I did not register online? Send an email to Ben, webmaster@walcamp.org, with this question and basic camper info (name, dates attending and camp session) for access information.

Someone else registered the camper. Can I still access the gallery? Yes, it is possible for grandparents and other relatives or family friends to view the gallery. To do so the parent or gaurdian who registered the camper needs to set up a "Friend Account" for you. This account is limited and does not permit purchase of full-size photos at this time, however it can be used to send camper email if it has already been purchased.

Is there a group photo available? YES! When you arrive on Sunday, visit the camp store to order your all-camp photo. Photos will be delivered on Friday.

What are the DVDs? Each week, Walcamp offers a DVD with video clips of the week's activities, typically set to music relating to the Summer theme and camp songs sung throughout the week. When you arrive on Sunday, visit the camp store to order your DVD. DVDs are delivered on Friday.

Are there pictures on the DVD? No. In past years, photos were often provided on the DVDs. However, because of features available with the new UltraCamp gallery -and to reduce development time- the photos will no longer be included on the DVDs.

What if the DVD isn't ready? Due to the amount of video footage to assemble -or unforseen technical difficulties- the DVD is not always ready by Friday. In such an event, the DVD will be mailed as soon as possible (usually 4-6 weeks).

Why should I sign a Photo Release? In respect for your privacy, Walcamp requests your permission to use photos and/or video of each participant for our website (including the Photo Gallery!), brochures, videos and other printed or visual media. We seek to only use photos where permission has been granted for their use, and since summer camp averages 70-100 campers a week, it is helpful for us to obtain that permission beforehand. If you have any questions about this, please contact Ben, webmaster@walcamp.org.

Mail, Email, Phones, etc...

How can I contact my child while he or she is at camp? The best way to reach your camper is by mail (the address is...). Campers love it! We suggest that you send it at least a week ahead of time. Clearly mark your camper's name, their camp session and which week he or she is attending. You may mark letters to be delivered certain days (Monday, Tuesday...) .Packages (clearly marked) are also welcome.

Another option is to turn in "mail" at the Camp Store during registration. Again, clearly mark the campers name, camp session and week he or she is attending. We will be sure to deliver the mail on the day you have marked.

Can I email my camper? It is now possible, with UltraCamp, to contact your camper by email. It is done by purchasing email "blocks" (with 5 emails per block) in your Online Registration user area. Only the parent/guardian may purchase email blocks, however a "Friend Account" may also send email once a block has been purchased.

Where can I find Care Packages to send my camper? See Third-Party Services.

Singing for mail? It is a tradition at Walcamp that campers "sing" for their mail. If you think your child will be uncomfortable with this tradition - please inform his or her counselor. Mail is meant to be a treat!

Why didn't my child recieve the mail I sent? Since many parents send mail early, determining which camper -from which week- it belongs to can be difficult unless it is clearly labeled. While we do our best to deliver it, you will help ensure your child receives the mail you so lovingly sent by clearly marking his or her name, the camp program and dates your child is attending.

What if I want to call my child? While we encourage you to send lots of mail to your child, we request that you do not call your child. Telephone calls are likely to cause homesickness - not cure it!   Please do call in an emergency. Between 8-4 pm, call the main office (815.784.5141). The office staff will take a message and immediately have the Summer Program Director locate your child with the information. After 4 pm, calling the main number (815.784.5141) will direct you as to how to reach the staff person on call with an emergency number.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

What if I want my child to call me? To help your child enjoy their experience we encourage you NOT to have them call home. If they must call home a WRITTEN REQUEST MUST ACCOMPANY THE HEALTH FORM (including information on how and when). Please remember - this can be disruptive to their experience and to their fellow campmates. You will be notified in the case of an emergency or any health concerns. If you are concerned your child may be overly homesick, a note to Keith Peters, Summer Camp Director, and a private chat with your child's counselor or the Health Care Manager may be a better solution than simply telling your child to call home anytime.
